Pierre Ngo, the district’s Energy & Project Manager, recently introduced students at South Delta Secondary to a new AI smart irrigation system. It’s designed to automatically pause sprinkler systems when rain is forecasted — saving both water and money.

The system uses AI-driven weather forecasts that are far more accurate than traditional sensors, especially for microclimates like Ladner, Tsawwassen, and North Delta. AI smart irrigation helps manage these different weather conditions effectively.

How the AI System Works

  1. Pulls real-time weather data from OpenWeather’s AI platform .
  2. Sends that data to a microprocessor that talks to the irrigation controller, making AI smart irrigation more efficient.
